IT Support Engineer – MJD Systems
The Role
At MJD Systems, we’re looking for a proactive and personable IT Support Engineer to join our growing team. In this hands-on role, you’ll be the first point of contact for our clients, helping them keep their IT systems running smoothly. You’ll troubleshoot a wide range of technical issues—from hardware and software to cloud services—via our service desk located at Nether Dallachy and on-site visits across Scotland.
As a Managed Service Provider (MSP), our work is fast-paced and varied. One day you might be configuring Microsoft 365, the next installing a firewall or assisting with a network rollout. You’ll receive full training on our internal systems (including ConnectWise PSA) and work closely with our senior engineers to deliver outstanding service.
Key Responsibilities
• First-Line Support: Diagnose and resolve Tier 1 and 2 support tickets for desktops, laptops, servers, and mobile devices running Windows 11, macOS, and Microsoft 365.
• Microsoft Entra / Azure AD: Administer users, groups, and access permissions. Support cloud identity issues such as login problems and MFA setup.
• Customer Service: Provide friendly, professional support via phone, email, and on-site. Communicate technical solutions clearly to users of all skill levels.
• On-Site Visits: Travel to client offices across Scotland to resolve urgent issues, perform maintenance, or assist with project rollouts. (Pool car provided.)
• Ticketing & Documentation: Use ConnectWise PSA to log issues, track progress, and document resolutions. Prioritise and escalate tickets to meet SLAs.
• System Monitoring: Use tools like NinjaOne RMM to monitor client systems, patch devices, check backups, and ensure security protocols are in place.
• Project Support: Assist with IT projects including client onboarding, Office 365 migrations, network installations, and cybersecurity enhancements.
• Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to our internal knowledge base and help improve processes for better service delivery.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
• Right to Work: Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the UK. We cannot sponsor visas.
• MSP Experience: Prior experience in an MSP or IT support provider environment is highly beneficial.
• Technical Skills: Strong hands-on experience with Windows 11, macOS, and Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams). Familiarity with Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) is a plus.
• Troubleshooting: Excellent diagnostic skills across hardware, software, and networking. Able to resolve most 1st and 2nd line issues independently.
• Communication: Clear, patient communicator with fluent written and spoken English.
• Team Player: Collaborative, reliable, and friendly. Thrives under pressure and contributes to a positive team culture.
• Task Ownership: Self-motivated and organized. Able to manage workload and meet deadlines without constant supervision.
• Certifications: Relevant IT certifications (e.g. Certs in Windows 10/11, CompTIA A+/Network+, ITIL Foundation) are a plus. Equivalent experience is welcome, and we’ll support you in gaining further certifications.
• Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence is required for travel to client sites.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
• Education: Degree or HND in IT is desirable but not essential.
• Cybersecurity: Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and tools (e.g. endpoint protection, firewalls, Cyber Essentials, Security+).
• ConnectWise Experience: Familiarity with ConnectWise PSA/RMM or similar ticketing systems is a bonus.
• Networking: Understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and experience with routers, switches, and VPNs.
What We Offer
• Immediate Start: We’re ready to welcome the right candidate right away.
• Competitive Pay & Benefits: Salary based on experience, plus peoples pension, holiday allowance (including bank holidays), and performance-based reviews.
• Training & Development: Full training on our systems and support for professional growth, including certifications and workshops.
• Variety & Challenge: Work across industries and technologies—cloud platforms, cybersecurity, networking—keeping your role dynamic and rewarding.
• Supportive Culture: Work directly with our Managing Director and senior engineers. We value open communication, collaboration, and celebrating wins together.
• Small Company Perks: Autonomy, career progression, hybrid working model and a chance to make a real impact. Plus, regular team socials and the occasional office dog visit!
